NIAGARA, Wis. — The Niagara Lions Community Parade and Picnic will be held Friday and Saturday at Heights Park in Niagara.

There is no admission fee and activities will get underway starting Friday at 4 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.

Registration for a two-person team bean bag tournament will begin at 4 p.m. with action starting at 5:30. Entertainment will be provided both evenings.

The Descendants will be featured Friday night from 7 to 11:30.

Saturday activities will get underway at 1 p.m.when the midway opens with bouncy houses and other inflatables again providing hours of fun for children. In order to help keep parental costs down, wrist bracelets will be sold for $10 that will provide children and adults with unlimited participation on the inflatables.

In addition to many booths offering food, beverages, and other games, roast sweet corn will be available.

The annual parade will step off at 2 p.m. Saturday with units lining up near the corner of Scott Street and Jefferson Avenue at 1:30 p.m. There is no preregistration for parade entries so those planning to participate should line up and those with classic cars and trucks are encouraged to join.

At 3 p.m. the new Miss Niagara will be crowned as incoming Miss Niagara Abigail Tripp will receive her crown and sash from outgoing Miss Niagara Haley Allred.

Tripp now becomes the 54th young lady to be honored in a tradition that dates to 1968 when Mary Kinziger became the first Miss Niagara at what is believed to have been the first Niagara Lions Picnic. Also expected to participate in the parade and coronation will be court members, Morgan Borchardt, Emma Brasure, Aiva Champeau and Erin Lukowicz.

At 4 p.m. the Niagara Women’s Civic Club will announce the winners of this year’s Niagara First Lady and Mr. Niagara contest. There will also be a competitive bean bag tournament offering cash prizes.

In the evening, drawings for the winners of the new 2022 Picnic and Fireworks Cash Raffle will take place at 6:30 p.m. when $2,800 in cash prizes will be given out to those holding the winning tickets.

The cash prizes were donated by local businesses and are on sale for $10 per ticket or three for $20.

The entertainment for the evening will feature Norton, Chartier & Company, who will perform from 7 to 11:30.

Raffle prize drawings will be held throughout the evening with major prizes for the regular Lions Picnic raffle being drawn at 9 p.m. Fifteen cash prizes will be awarded ranging from $500 to $50.

The area’s most spectacular fireworks display will take place at dusk on Saturday, accompanied by the playing of patriotic music. Donations will be accepted throughout the picnic to help defray the cost of the fireworks.

As a community event, there is no charge for non-profit organizations to have booths and activities at the park. Those interested are asked to contact Lion Kim Schuster by today at 906-282-8085 or by email at kimschuster22@gmail.com.
